United States Seeks to Reduce Dependency on China through Higher Tariffs on Electric Vehicles and Other Chinese Products

China has become a dominant force in the electric vehicle market, with an estimated 60% share of global sales of new passenger electric vehicles, around 14.1 million units in 2023, according to BloombergNEF. This substantial influence has caused tensions internationally, especially in Europe. In September, the European Union launched an investigation into alleged state subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles, claiming that China’s practices were flooding the market with low-cost cars.
