Canton-based steelmaker Metallus praised President Donald Trump’s recently announced 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, which reinstates his previous steel tax without exemptions and increases the tax on aluminum.
Mike Williams, president and CEO of Metallus, said the new tariffs close loopholes ― “such as country quotas, exemptions, and product exclusions” ― and will shift the steel industry landscape.
“This policy change aligns with our longstanding advocacy for fair trade practices and correcting market distortions,” he said in a prepared statement. “These important changes help better position Metallus to support the need for domestically produced steel, enhance our market position, as we continue to deliver exceptional service to our customers.”
