The Founding Fathers read all about free trade, Adam Smith’s “Wealth of Nations”, and wanted no part of it. They rejected free trade. Ricardo’s theory of Comparative Advantage (1817) didn’t lead us into a no-tariff economy either. The Founders knew what was best for our nation, and it didn’t include free trade.
